PaaS, SaaS or IaaS?

You’ve likely heard of PaaS, SaaS and IaaS. Maybe you’ve seen the letters bandied about here and there. But what do they mean?

  • PaaS – PaaS stands for platform as a service. This is a type of cloud computing where the platform or underlying computing software are sold as a service over the Internet. In can be in the form of a whole platform system or a solution stack.
  • SaaS– Software as a service. Refers to individual software solutions that are delivered over cloud-based systems or through the Internet.
  • IaaS – Infrastructure as a service means the underlying hardware components, the actual infrastructure of your computing components are delivered via Internet, or the cloud.

Cloud computing is here and it’s here to stay. These three components of cloud computing are the way of the future so if you are planning to be a long-term survivor in your industry then you should start by learning about these forms of computing for the new way of doing business.
