The Internet has been likened to the Wild West. It’s easy to see the comparison. The Wild West was a country that had no rules. People showed up and just started dealing with each other on nature’s basis. If one man got angry at another, bang, bullets flew. You’d better not be an innocent bystander in the way.
Cloud computing is somewhat like that, but not quite. There are still governing laws that apply on the Internet. However, sometimes it is difficult and tedious to ferret out those laws. Which ones apply? How do they apply?
All the legal experts in the world have not come to an agreement on some of those laws, which ones apply, and how they apply. Nevertheless, business is business. And in the cloud, there are a lot of risks to consider. That’s why cloud security is such an important thing to keep in mind when you move your business to the cloud.
That’s not to say that you should avoid cloud computing altogether. There are benefits. But you should count the costs and make a decision about which direction to take your business based on the facts. Keep your data secure. Don’t just take security for granted, not a cloudy second.
